New Year's Resolution Tips, continued

As we discussed last week, the key to being successful with your New Year's resolutions is to be realistic, stay focused, plan, and work with a buddy. These tips work and so do the following suggestions:

  1. Reward Yourself. Celebrate your success by treating yourself to something that you enjoy that does not contradict your resolution. So if you lost a pound, treat yourself to a yoga class or massage. If you’ve fit in two fertility consultations this week, take time off and soak in the tub.
  2. Be Kind. Sometimes we slip. Be okay with that. It doesn’t mean you are a failure. It doesn’t mean that you need to eat a quart of ice cream. It just means that tomorrow you need to get back on track.
  3. Be Consistent. Experts say it takes about 21 days for a new activity, such as exercising, to become a habit, and about 6 months for it to become part of who you are. So keep putting in the effort. It will pay off.
